There is no universal law that says that you have a right to be a tourist and to impose yourself on a foreign culture.
Always bear in mind that it is you who is the foreigner and that you are a guest in someone else's country.
The essence of travel is to enjoy and to learn. Good tourists are considerate and careful in their behaviour and appearance.
It is easy to have a great time abroad and show respect and consideration for your hosts at the same time.
Respect the culture of the country you are in.
To respect the lifestyle and customs of the place you are visiting requires that you consciously try not to offend by your actions or appearance. Try to dress appropriately, speak quietly and behave with dignity and without arrogance.
At the simplest level, for example, ladies may wish to take a headscarf with them so that they can cover their heads when visiting religious buildings such as Orthodox Christian churches, Mosques, and temples. Men should try not to wear shorts and t-shirts in such places.
Many cultures place great store on sobriety and dignified behaviour. Drunkenness and shouting are therefore more than frowned upon.
Try to remember that whatever is acceptable in the country in which you live may not be acceptable in the places you visit. Speaking loudly, dressing as though just off the beach, drinking alcohol in public as well as many other things may well not only be inappropriate but may lead to the inhabitants feeling insulted by your behaviour and/or appearance.
Be proud of where you come from but remember that the people of the place you are visiting are just as proud of their own nation.
