Why Bother?

Although we might not like to consider it, there are many things that can go wrong while on vacation. Appropriate travel insurance is, therefore, a must for every traveller.

Travel insurance that includes medical cover is important for several reasons. Medical expenses in foreign countries can be very high indeed. If you fell and broke a hip, for example, the necessary immediate operation could costs thousands.

And it isn't just about medical expenses. Travel insurance can also cover the loss of baggage and personal possessions such as passports and documents and it can also cover repatriation costs or damage you may cause to third parties.

Check the Cover

ALWAYS check the details of the policy carefully (we know it's a drag but the small print often contains the things that you need to know). Some policies have exclusions you need to be aware of.

You will find that cover and cost vary quite a lot but don't be attracted by low-cost policies unless you are absolutely sure they give you everything you might need. Do a little research and shop around (especially if you have special insurance needs - a disability or existing medical condition, perhaps).
