Enjoying Yourself on Vacation
General Advise
-
Downlaod the A Day In™ travel guides to get to know the areas you are travelling to
-
Try not to make it too obvious that you are a tourist
-
Don't flash cash and credit cards around and don't wear expensive jewellery and watches - otherwise you will be a prime target for pick pockets.
-
If you can learn one or two basic phrases and please and thank you in the language of the countries you are visiting this will help you get a smile from the locals who often just appreciate it when tourists try.
-
When you are taking photos you should always remember to ask permission if taking photos of locals, particularly children.
-
Consider what you are wearing. Be aware of any customs and traditions and dress appropriately. This often applies to women in particular.
-
Carry a doctor's prescription for any medicines you need and keep a copy of the original prescription with your important documents. BUT make absolutely sure that the medicine you are given is the correct one and not simply one with a similar name (or even the same name) that is dispensed in that particular country only. There are hundreds of medicines that have the same or slightly different names in different countries but that are meant to be prescribed for very different ailments.
